Muckno Mania, Castleblayney (5-7 July) turns 25 this year, and in addition to the main festivities, the organisers are marking the occasion with a ‘Mad Hatters’ birthday party in Mindzenty Park (5th July, 3-5pm) and a 90s Disco at the Glencarn (6th July at 10pm).

The legendary Monaghan Town Country Music Festival makes its long-awaited return, July 18th-21st. In addition to four nights of solid, foot-stomping live music featuring The Tumbling Paddies, Jimmy Buckley, Mike Denver and Michael English among headliners, you can also expect line dancing demos and a highly competitive jiving competition!

Daily or full festival tickets are available and can be purchased in advance from the Westenra Arms Hotel or on the night from one of the ticket booths conveniently located around town.

Another festival returning following a hiatus is the Inniskeen Road July Evening Festival, 12-14 July. As well as the traditional stroll with storytelling and performance through Inniskeen landmarks, the Festival is set to feature the inaugural Monaghan Plein Air festival and two evening events in the Patrick Kavanagh Centre.

The first of these is a very special screening of Sé Merry Doyle’s ‘No Mans Fool’ (2004) a specially commissioned documentary about Patrick Kavanagh produced for the centenary anniversary since his birth.

The second is the acclaimed and hugely successful one man show, ‘The Man in the Woman’s Shoes‘ by actor Mikel Murfi which hasn’t stopped touring since 2013. Both are sure to be sell-outs, so grab your tickets fast.
