Clones Film Festival 2024 returns October Bank Holiday Weekend

Now well into its third decade, Clones Film Festival returns this October Bank Holiday with the usual mix of international shorts, features, and documentaries to sate the appetites of local film aficionados, young and old.

Opening on Thursday 24 October, the festival will run for four days with screenings taking place in a variety of beautifully restored buildings in the town – the Courthouse, the Old Post Office, and St Joseph’s Hall.

One very special event taking place on Saturday 26 October is the world premiere of  Dziga Vertov’s 1929 avant-garde masterpiece ‘Man with a Movie Camera’ with a new musical score composed by Robert and Rita Perry.

Another programme highlight on Saturday 26 October is ‘The Wilde Sisters.’ Directed by Táine King from Castleblayney and starring Joanne Brennan and Tessa Fleming from Monaghan, the story is inspired by the deaths of Oscar Wilde’s sisters in Monaghan in 1871. King observed about the film “Telling a local story is about celebrating our roots, our tradition and the unique fabric that binds us all. The film is a testament to the power of storytelling, to community and to the beauty of our county.”
