Description

A wealth of traditional music sessions and events can be found right across county Monaghan. Adamson's Bar, Clones hosts a trad session every Friday night from 10pm, whilst Carrickmacross Comhaltas Ceoltóirí run a busy schedule of traditional and reel slow sessions on Fridays and Sundays each month in a number of local venues, including Markey’s Bar and Deery’s Bar & Lounge in Carrickmacross, and Corduff Raferagh Community Centre – for further info on upcoming session dates visit their Facebook page.

There are numerous branches of the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann active in county Monaghan promoting the preservation of Irish music, song, dance and language by organising Irish cultural concerts and events, running trad music sessions and classes for those interested in Irish music, and by partnering with other Irish cultural agencies, such as Muineachán le Gaeilge, to host pop up Gaeltacht’s and recreational events to encourage the use of the language socially.

Scoil Cheoil na Botha has become an established fixture in the Monaghan festival calendar, bringing many renowned traditional musicians to the village of Scotstown every October to host and take part in music workshops, trad sessions and concerts over the weekend. McCague's Bar can also be found in the heart of the village and hosts regular trad sessions in-house.

Keep an eye on the Monaghan Tourism Festivals & Events listings for more information on upcoming traditional music sessions and Irish language events taking place across the county throughout the year.
