Description
The Walking Tour of Carrickmacross aims to bring alive the vibrant history of the Town, including the Famine Times in the Workhouse, the two families who owned the town for many years: The Shirley Estate and the Bath Estate, and the War of Independence.
Carrickmacross has had many famous residents, best known is Patrick Kavanagh and plaques dedicated to his work are seen as part of the tour. Other cultural items of interest are Carrickmacross Lace and the Harry Clarke stained glass windows in local Churches.
This is a walking tour. The tour takes approximately 1 hour, so please wear comfortable walking shoes. Due to the inclement Irish weather we advise you to bring an umbrella and a rain jacket. If the weather conditions are too bad we will bring the tour to an indoor location.
There is no charge to take part in the tour.
No booking is required, however numbers will be restricted due to health and safety reasons.
