Hop on your High Nelly and join us a whistle-stop tour of Kavanagh Country in the company of Art Agnew, Patrick Kavanagh aficionado. Walk (or cycle) in the celebrated poet’s footsteps, down the lanes, through triangular fields and between the whitethorn hedges; the Monaghan landscape that shaped Patrick Kavanagh as a person and a poet has changed little since his time. The trail is 6km in length, and includes sites such as the Kavanagh homestead and Kednaminsha National School, where Kavanagh received his only formal education, as well as landmarks like Shancoduff and Billy Brennan’s Barn, immortalised in the poet’s work.
