Decorations & Stocking Fillers

From unique Irish gifts for teachers to stocking fillers, Monaghan makers have surpassed themselves this year, once again. Give a unique Monaghan gift this Christmas and support local crafts businesses at the same time.

Stocking Fillers Made in Monaghan

A thoughtful, one-off gift for a teacher or a secret Santa offering needn’t break the bank. Ulster Canal Stores in Clones has a handy selection of ‘Gifts under €21’ which includes vibrant silk cards by Annyalla-based Louise Loughman, meanwhile, prices for their impressive selection of Clones Lace start from just €8.50 for a keyring, €12 for a beautifully adorned lavender bag, and €15 for a hand-made brooch.

Textile artist Liz Christy has branched into stocking fillers with her quirky ‘LizzieC’ sheep gifts; the range includes hand-made magnets, broches and keyrings in a choice of vivid colour ways (and including county colous), with prices starting from €9 for a brooch.

New for 2020 is the The Santa Trap from Glaslough’s Busy Bee Ceramics: start a new festive tradition this year by leaving out a tile by the fireplace on Christmas Eve to see if you can capture a reindeer hoof print or even a footprint left by Santa himself. The set costs €10 and includes tile and paints so the tile can be decorated once it is dry.

Greetings from Monaghan

Why not send a loved one greetings from Monaghan this Christmas? The Patrick Kavanagh Centre’s Christmas Eve Remembered card (€2.50 each) depicts a nostalgic scene outside the former church of St. Mary’s, now home to the award-winning visitor experience.

Castleblayney artist Caoimhe Flanagan’s adorable animal themed Christmas cards are available to buy individually or in packs of five.

Monaghan Decorations

Carrickmacross Lace recently marked its 200th anniversary, and what better way to mark the occasion than adding a piece of the ‘royal lace’ to your Christmas tree ornament collection. Baubles are priced from €20, and come in a choice of designs, from traditional robins, snowflakes and angels, to shamrocks, harps and even a miniature map of Ireland, all hand-crafted little works of art.

Irish-made Christmas decorations unique to Monaghan also include King’s Forge Glass’s stunning fused glass tree ornaments made by hand in Grace Brennan’s Mullyash studio. We especially love the festive firs and the colourful candle design; €20 for a set of three.
