BF@Í – Un Coeur En Hiver
Our classic this season is the highly regarded French film Un Coeur en Hiver, which explores the passion and conflict of a love triangle. Old friends Maxime and Stéphane run a successful violon-making and -repair business. Maxime, confident and voluble, looks after the clients, while Stéphane, taciturn and introverted, is the master craftsman. Maxime falls in love with the beautiful and talented violinist, Camille, a relationship that begins to irritate Stéphane. Camille is attracted to Stéphane, who, in turn, begins to make plain his interest in her. Thus begins a film of looks, furtive glances, things half-said and unsaid, repressed desires – all brilliantly controlled by celebrated director Claude Sautet. This is no sentimental romance; rather, emotions other than love leave a wintry chill running through the three-way relationship.
