The Wildwood Flower – Garage Theatre

Garage Theatre’s Writer in Residence, Pat McCabe, presents his new play The Wildwood Flower, starring Gráinne Duffy, Aisling McCormilla, Claragh McDermott and Pat Deery.  This new play by Pat McCabe, featuring Monaghan blues musician Gráinne Duffy promises to be a fantastic evening of entertainment, celebrating some of the very best talents here in Monaghan.  It’s a beautiful production that combines storytelling, live music, and guitar performance — a real celebration of local creativity and collaboration.

The play is a journey towards a home in the heart-across a landscape where pale blue fog hangs above the valley and the music of Jim Reeves, Etta James and the nineteen-sixties showband sensation The Viscounts seem to conspire in a cosmic dream-conspiracy against reality in favour of romance. It pulses throughout with music and beaten but unbowed yearning .More than anything it concerns art and its fulfilment, whether that of or Bobby(‘Ode To Billy Joe’) Gentry, or the strange fifties frequencies of the monologues of our grandparents-still crackling inside us, never lost to anyone who calls Dixie or rural Ireland home.’ Pat Mc Cabe
