Description
From the Starting point of the Scotshouse Loop where the R-212 crosses the Finn river at Clonmore and going in an anti clockwise direction the Kingfisher Cycle route winds its way through Scotshouse into Newbliss, Killeevan and back into Clones.🚲
The route is mainly on local roads with some sections on regional roads. Travelling from the starting point, going in an anti clockwise direction along the R-212 towards Scotshouse and turning right at Annahare onto the LP-06260 the route takes you along quiet local roads with nice scenery which includes Annies Lough and through some wooded area. On arriving at Scotshouse which is a quaint little village, turning left onto the R-212 and right again onto the LT-22201 the route takes you on a steep climb that would challenge even the more experienced cyclists.
The only compensating factor for this is the breathtaking views of the Carnmore Mountains also known as Carn Rock which is part of the Sliabh Beagh mountain range in County Fermanagh. Descending from here the kingfisher trail brings you into Newbliss village which is a small town with a shop and petrol station and would provide a welcome break for the less experienced cyclists. Taking the R-183 out of Newbliss towards Clones and turning onto the LS-06290 at Killeevan School the cycle path goes along a level gradient before taking a sharp incline up to the old Abbey Graveyard which dates back to the 18th century. 🚴♀️
From here the cycle trail descends crossing the R-183 onto the LT-21521 passing Killeevan church and through Killeevan Glebe where there is a Famine Memorial Plaque placed on a stone wall beside a stream. The trail also passes the old Glebe House which dates back to the 17th century and through a wooded area and eventually arrives in Clones town onto the R-212 and back to the start/ finish point.🙌🚴♀️
